Kelly Johnson is vice president of community relations for WLXT-TV 9 Alive, Houston’s ABC affiliate. In this position, she manages public service events and cause-related marketing campaigns for the station. Kelly is executive producer of the Emmy Award-winning 9 Alive Community Service Awards, a program that annually honors outstanding volunteers, and the 9 Alive Holiday Food-a-thon, Houston’s largest televised food-raising event.

Johnson is a multi-Emmy Award winner and founder of the Black Women Arise Project. She was named WLXT -TV’s first female vice president in 1980. Likewise, she was featured in EBONY as well as XXL Magazine as One of the 21st Century Woman Trendsetters to Watch, which designated her as one of the women who will change the way America will conduct business in the 21st century.

Kelly received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University and Sam Houston State University awarded her a master’s degree in education. In 2001 she was awarded a Master of Arts degree in film and video from Rice University.

A native of Waco, Texas, Kelly is the wife of James Taylor Johnson and the proud mother of three sons, James, Jr., Taylor, and Devon.
